BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! & a "curry night" with "toy town"

wow.

so upon arriving in munich i foudn a site called www.toytowngermany.com

its basicaly a bunch of ex-patriots (which as i recently learned means someone whos not german by natinoality but is working in germany, or whatever country that they're not a patriot of) who get togther on wednesdays for indian food. And, since im indian, and on wednesday it was my bithday, i figured it would be a good way to meet people.

and boy did i meet some inttttttttteresting folks.

before i get into that, i just wanted to thank JANEK, JAN, DAVID, and JAROD. you guys are soooooooo sweeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!1 They bought me this book of prooo stattuss photography from all around Munich. It has some gorrrrrrrrgeous photos in it. Gratned all the writing portions are in german, but it gives me a chance to learn a little so its good. I was not expecting anything from them at all!!! i was soooooooooo surprised. Who gives someone that they've known for only like literally 6 days a beeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaauuuuuuutiful and obviously not cheap book of gorgeous photography from Munich.... these guys are awesome. How sweet is that!!! I love it....

So, basically, for anyone reading who is in DC, or San Diego, david and jan will be there so make sure to show them a good time. I'll be in california so i'll definitely be goign down to SD to show jan how i do it in the states ;)

Anyway... so the people from this toytown situation were sooooo not what i expected.

It hought it would bel iek all young americans ready to party... Turned out to be like people from everywhere (which i have no prbolem with) that were all sorts of ages (which i also have no problem with) but it just wasn't what i was expecting.

There was this woman from nottingham who was very outspoken and made a german guy who was completely separate from our group sit at our tabel. which was a great idea because then i got to sit with jan janek and david and as you know they are AWESOME so that was cool, but it was wierd cuz iw as sitting accross from that woman, the german guy who got added to the table was caddy corner or whatever to my left, and this other crazy ass guy was like sitting accross from me to the right. He was freaking weird, man. He was this old dude from the uk somewhere, and he looked like a punk rocker that had done a lotttttttttttttttttttt of drugs in his day and clearly did not know how to interact with people. I was extremely uncomfortabel aroudn this guy.

There were some realllllllllllllly nice people there too, and one of them "invited" me for a drink at a nearby bar. I nearly accepted but noticed that the weird guy was still staring at me so i said i woudln't go just to avoid being around him... Then some other people who were leaving were like yaaa u should come, and we were like yaaaaaaaa ok (literally, yaa, thats hwo they say it here.. spelled "ja") and then they walked out and came back inside and were like yo are u guys coming?

us - "yea we'll just finish our beers and come"
them - "alright, well that guy is wiating for you outside"
us - " what? which guy?"
them - " the guy with the long hair is waiting for you guys to come to the bar"

me: ABSOLUTELY FREAKED OUT.

so we didnt endu p going cuz i was totally weireded out, and so janek went home but jarod and jan and i went to leopoldstrasse to go toa couple of bars... unforttccchhh it was raining earlier that day so there werent too many people but it was great :)

moral of the story:
i love my german boys :)

Detailing at Detail

So. yesterday i worked on more layouting of the samep roject i was working on before. it takes so much time to figure out which photos and stuff you're going to use... the firm we're looking at is awesome. i had to call berlin to talk to them and the first thing i said was

"sprechen sie englisch?"

which obviously means, do u speak english?

luckily the woman did, and i got transferred to PR so he could release photos to us, and the guy was totally american!! or at least his english was "american like" i was soooooooooo excited.

anyways, i got to work with the chief editor today for about 30 or 40 minutes (wow!) and we talked about how one goes about choosing a photo and all that... it was pretty cool and i think i learned a lot! at first he was really bummed that i dont speak german, but now everyone in the firm is speaking english and he's glad that they get to practice. hahaha he wants me to teach them how to speak english now.

yeah right.

anyways, things have been good, i stayed a little extra yesterday to work (and to show frank that i dont just sit on facebook all day.. haha he caught me earlier checking my mail. oops) anyway, so i stayed extra cuz im not in the office TODAY BECAUSE IM IN AMSTERDAM!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm CURRENTLY at the amsterdam airport and i'm waiting for my flight to manchester to commence, where i will meet up with my cousin Aastha who goes to Lancaster. We're going out for my birthday, and basically a prebirthday situation forh er as well since hers is in august and we definitely wont be together at that time.

xoxo

Who knows, maybe ill find a cool chick to go see sex in the city with. Unles one of the boys wanna go? Hahaha...

XOXO

first day of work at DETAIL

Today, on what was supposedly the hottest day of the year in Germany, I began my first day of work at Detail Magazine. As if going to the office wasnt intimidating enough, I wasnt just a little sweaty, and got to shake everyone's hand in the office.

Aside from being on a plane which went from Bankok to Calcutta, I dont think Ive ever smelled so much b.o. Luckily, I wore a descent amount of deoderant, but I cant say that for everyone else in the office.

I guess Germans arent used to the heat either.

Michaela, the chick that made it happen for me at Detail, turned out to be one of the funniest Germans Ive met thus far, aside from David (one of the boys) who even with his somewhat limited English manages to make what are probably the funniest jokes in town. Granted, it could simply be his accent, or the fact that I cant always tell whether hes being sarcastic or not (but then again, when can I ever tell when someone is being sarcastic?)

I got to see the new project by ***** which has just been built in ***** (sorry, sworn to secrecy). The grafiks are awesome!!!
omgggggggggggggggggg do they make the coooooolest diagrams. And I think I saw the biggest rendering EVER today on a computer. This thing was HUUUUUUUUUUUGE. No one had anything for me to do when I first got there so I spent the first hour or so simply enjoying reading my favourite magazine (Detail, duh). And just for kicks, I read the german version and used a translator to get myself better acquainted with the language.

On my wonderfully long hour lunch break, I spent my time at a phramacy nearby buying stuff I couldnt get after the hours of 6 when all reasonably priced convenience stores in Munich close.
I picked up some lotion (2 euros) and mascara (10 euros. fucknig bull shit) and spent the last of the cash that I had. §200 gone in 3 days spent on internet cafes, groceries, a german sim card, subway passes, and lets not forget the alcohol.

They had a straightener for 20 euros which sounds goooood but is probably shitty, (even tho it says its ceramic) but i cant imagine anything that cheap being any good. Either way, they didnt take credit cards so I had to get more money out the ATM.

So, I headed over to CitiBank next door, where I asked the old white teller how he was and whether he spoke english. He curtly said no, and I told him I didnt speak german, and he said ''nicht gut'' - essentially '' SUCKS FOR UUUUUUUUUUUUU''. I think hes the rudest german Ive ever met. Fking jerk.

Anyway, I went to the next teller (after waiting another 15 minutes till the one who spoke English was available) but apparently having only a COPY of your passport isnt good enough there, u have to have the real thing. Im sorry, but my mommy taught me not to walk around the city with my passport.

I went back to work after getting kicked out of a seat by a waiter who said I would have to order food to sit there, and quite unhappy with the way my sweaty day was going I decided to simply think that it was probably just the heat that was making all the Germans in Munich be rude to me that day.

Luckily everyone at the office was AWESOME, even tho the boss seems a little scary.

Anyway, I got back to the office and told Michaela what happened and she said I should probably try deutschebank, since I have Bank of America and they are partners. After work (thugh Frank tried to keep me working on layouts) I FINALLY managed to get some cash but missed my movie night with the Americans! Very sad. We were going to see sex in the city. I programmed it in my blackberry and everything, and then I went and missed it. I was very sad :( Now what am i going to do. Go by mself? I cant go to a fucking movie by myself. FUCK.

Freakin Frank. If only I hadnt stayed that extra half hour. But deadline for print is on Thursday and they needed me at the office so a good first impression is definitely better than some sex in the city... NOT. Okay yaaa so it probably is. But i wanted to seee ittttttttt uggghhh.....

Anyway, since there was no way i was going to make the movie I decided that instead of going home right away I would either call the boys or just walk around Munich a little... I chose the latter and spent some time at Karlsplatz (lol where Ive been for like the past 3 days) and I tried to get a pass for June but couldnt figure out the machines and no one spoke enough english to help me out enough. Siggghhhhh... Im going to have to figure that out very quickly otherwise my u-bahn bill is going to RACK UP.

In the mean time, I think I explored every exit and enterance of Karlsplatz station and found that it has about a BILLION. I dont even know how I found my way home from there. Sheesh.

Anyway.. I have some pizza at mi casa from yesterday.. think Ill go eat some leftovers.

Ciao bellas

longest day + night + day everrrrrrr

DAMN did i party my ass off last night...

lolllllllllll yesterday was the most intense thing. sooo i headed over to the boys place around 8 but because i fd up and got off at the wrong exit on the u-bahn, poor janek had to wait for me forever and i felt really bad. not to mention stupid. i called their house to be like yo where yo boy at and he was waiting for me, by the elvator, where i said i was, just he was at the right stop and i wasnt. lol.... and then they made fun of my o.c. ass forever after.

after we prepartied at the bozy house we went over to some club.. i dont exactly remember going there buttttttttt i remember BEING there lol.. and it was ffffffffking cool!! i remmeber dancing w the ladies that the bozy brought and wanting to get on stage.. but luckily the girls had a little more sense than me at that time soo we didnt do that. there was like this outside area that had jacuzzi and it hink a bar outside? notttt really sure i had a little too much to drink.. well, actually i didnt eat dinner which was totally stupid cuz i think janek even made some bbq but for some reason i didnt eat it? idk.. that was silly.

anyways im really hung over right now.

after we left teh club at like fking 4 or 5 in the morning, i took the u-bahn back w jared and waited at osteonplatz for like forever but i never saw the u6. turns out i was at the wrong floor and i needed to be one up.. lol yesterday was my day of being one off i guess. (station, then the floor). anyway so i was gonna take a different train.. u5.. which has a stop near mine(partnachplatz) (im getting used to the german slowly yet surely) (and the keyboards too)
so i got off somewhere and started to walk. by this time it was about 6.30 and i asked a couple randoms how to get to partnachplatz but no one really knew.. then i met max.

max was this crazy cool guy who i ended up spending aboutt he next 6 hours with. at first he was going to walk me to partnachplatz. then i found out he was also a designer and we were totally excited! we walked by a little pond connected to an apartment building (in which, he explained to me, that he had put some fish in a few days earlier and they seemed to be surviving just fine). then we had coffee at his place and outside his window there was a bunch of scaffolding stuff cuz they were doing construction. i hadnt been on scaffolding in a long time, (since i was like 6 or something) if ever, so i took a little walk through it... SO COOL!

then we took the u-bahn over to the olympic stadium to walk around a bit.. insane. we had to switch trains at osteonplatz or whatevv (which is wehre i was stuck at earlier that morning) and we went up and there was this huuuuge open area.. it was that samep lace i had been with janek just 2 days ago checking out the scene. i decided i wanted to lay down in the middle of the center so.. we did! then we went to church for a bit and listed to teh sermon in german (ha.. rhymes) and then went back down to head over to olympic stadium.

the stadium was so cool!!! it was awwwwesome to see.. unforcchh i wasnät in the most comfy shoes but it was really cool to check out.. then maxs friend met up with us. he has a dog from spain.

anyway.. so i didnät end up getting home till 11.30 am and i called devin to say hiiiiii..... then i passed out till 5.
