I must have been Bayrish in my last life..

Highlights:
1. dirndl (Bavarian dress) shopping with julia
2. walking around münchen in the rain with Kevin
3. Gay parade in Munich! aka Christopher Street Day with Kevin and jeff
4. partying with Bernhard, matti, and the bayrish guy until 5 in the morning
5. first time ever going to a club alone. at 5 in the morning. lying about my identity.

I woke up at a “decent hour“ as my mom would say ( i miss that woman) and did a little cleaning. Watched more CNN and worked on my thesis idea a little more..

I met up with Julia in the afternoon and we went dirndl shopping!!! It was sooo fun.. we just tried on different colored dirndls lol. a Dirndl is the typical Bavarian dress that women wear. Theyre totally cute and totally flattering. apparently girls wear ridiculous push up bras to fill out their dresses hahaha… I have some pics below but unforrttcchhh I didn't use the push up situation.

I met up with Kevin later and we walked around everywhere in munich.. we went from Leopold strasse all the way to isartor!! which is like 4 u-bahn stops.. so u know that's a serious walk. it was really nice even though it was raining. I had straightened my hair that morning so I was a little poofy (but I learned my lesson and didn't straighten it the next day lol)

We spent some time at the Christopher Day Parade ( munich’s gay parade.. although because of the rain there was no parade) which was like a much-tamer versions of San Francisco‘s Love Parade/Fest. Did you know that those things have absolutely no reported violence? We saw a funny old man dancing in a column and I filmed it lol.. (we went back the next day in hopes that the old man would still be there, but alas he was not, so took pics of us in there instead).

That night I met up with Bernhard, Jacqui‘s friend, and he turned out to be pretty intense…ly cool!! We went to a party at his (hot but unfortunately gay) dj friend‘s house and partied the night away. I met a lot of reallllly cool people and this one cool Austrian chick who im supposed to hang out with later this week and go to the tollwood fest with. she kind of looks Californian. and if we were in oc I probably would never hang with someone that looks like her, but I don't think American stereotypes hold in germany, so lets see! her name is Michaela.

the party was crazy awesome.. but Bernhard and his bayrish friend were air-guitarring and it was the most interesting thing I have ever seen at a party lol.. I couldn't stop laughing.. earlier in the night they told mem that there had been an air-guitar competition that day hahahhahahahha whichw ouldve been SO FUNNY to watch.. they asked me if iwas into air-guitarring and I said I was a champion at berkely. (hahahaha and they believed me) and I told them I would compete with them later that night, which I didn't, but apparently they had taken me seriously.

anyway, I didn't air guitar with them, but I did rock out a little to red hod chilli peppers when they came on…I miss RHCP!! i want to see them live.

I ended up leaving at around 5 ish am with the Austrian chick. since I was at poccistrase I thought I could walk home, but that is still 4 stops to my house and that is probably at least a good hour or two walk so I decided not to.. instead I went to a club on my way home to dance the time away until the u-bahn started running again at 6 am.

when I got there I felt pretty awkward- holding an umbrella, my coat, no drink, and alone, I walked over to the floor and just started dancing lol. it was pretty funny and I had to seriously stop myself from laughing at myself. this random 5’6 guy tried to get close to me but I kept bouncing away, and bounced right into this 35 yr old who asked me if I wanted a drink.

I got a gin and tonic and danced around a little. This is who I was:

Name: Michaela
BirthPlace: Barcelona, Spain
Current Residence: New York
Job: Newsreporter
Length of stay in Munich: 1 week
Age: 27
Munich Residence: “really far away“

lol..I had such a blast.. I told the guy I would BRB after I was totally done talking to him.. went over to the bathroom to pee and sit down a little. I gave my drink to a 17 yr old in the bathroom who looked like she could definitely use a little more alcohol (not). I took a poster from the bathroom and head out towards the ubahn..

I got home around 6.. took a nice long shower since I reeked like second hand smoke and passed out until 3 pm the next day.

I smell Vintage…

Why is it that every time you walk into a vintage store you are greeted with the same smell?

http://hotandnerdy.files.wordpress.com/2007/11/hn-mia-mag-1.jpg

I'm not quite sure, but I found an awesome vintage store in München...

I was walking around last week near Isartor and found a boutique which had clothing for people who are in love with MIA’s style. I wandered about the 3-storey house of wonders and found all sorts of things from the 80’s, 90’s, and today, including items which were clearly second-hand.

I had no idea from the name of the boutique that it might’ve been a Buffalo Exchange or Crossfoads Trading Company type of store, but the faint smell which began to envelope me towards the back of the boutique clearly indicated to my senses that this was no Nordstroms.

I found all sorts of vintage “ugly" sweaters which I absolutely LOVE, a fabulous pair of grey skinny jeans (new) and tons and tons of funky party-wear. I didn't buy anything but I’m definitely going back for the grey skinnies.

Everything wasn't all that great though. The boutique seemed namely to be a mixture of a vintage store, a really cheap Forever 21, and DKNY; an interesting combination which requires the customer to hunt for a good find and be extremely creative with his or her dress style.

Rating: 4 / 5 (on a good day).

Lancaster & Manchester, UK

I flew into Manchester today!!!

My cousin Aastha came to "receive me" at the airport and we took a train back to Lancaster for 15 Pounds (which amounted to more than $30 at the current rate...I think I like the Euro better).

After we came back to her apt, we went to a cute little Indian Restaurant on campus lol and I met one of her friends, Avinash, a sindhi Indian guy from Barcelona! Crazy! I got to practice my spanish with him so that was fun, and my Hindi, and my Sindhi, AND MY ENGLISH! Unfortunately he didn't know German but if he did I think I would have had to shrink him and put him in my pocket to be my personal pocket dictionary.

We ate biriyani and I had a tandoori chicken wrap, and because he was so impressed with my language skills he gave me a Mango Lassi. I think I may have to include that amazing factoid about me on my C.V. :

" Awardee of Mango Lassi for incredible linguistic capabilities"

After lunch I got some cassssssssh and transferred my leftover dollars to Pounds ( $100 = 46 Pounds... Ouch) and then we did some sight seeing!!!!

Aasthu and I on the double decker bus on our way to townnnn :)

This statue looked exactly like me.. There must've been one of my awesome ancestors there, too.

All Hail Great Britain. NOTTTTTT! (borat voice) hahhaa...

After we checked out that whole area, we went to the Gardens nearby where:

^ that's what I'm doing :D.. I really feel like while I'm out here I'm like searching for my own path through life with all the crazy cool amazingly awesome experiences I'm experiencing.. And of course the people along the way are enhancing my journey more than I ever thought they would...

I already miss Germany. How crazy is that! Away from deutschland for not even a DAY and I'm sad... I know I'm going to be verrrrrrrrry sad to leave at the end of the summer...

Anyway, enough of that, tonight Aastha and I are going outtttttttt! We bought some rum for a pre-party in her party.. We're going to club CUBA tonight. I'll let yall know how that went tomorow ;)
