More Visitors!!
Yay!! I am being showered with friendly American faces.
Vivian from fountain valley AND from berkeley is in München!! woohoo!! Hopefully I get better so I can go out with her too. And, Jaishree Aunty (my mom's very good friend) is coming today as well. This weekend we plan on visiting Dachao, and Ruthemburg. Yay :)
And on Friday, Ive invited the boys over for dinner at my house, furnished by my lovely mom, who is curious to see why I've been raving about these sexy German boys.
AND another newcomer, Erica (Jarods girlfriend) is also in town. So exciting! Another American chick! Hopefully she is as down to party as all of us are. Im sure she's pretty awesome, I cant picture Jarod dating anyone who isn't.

Germany's Germs
I thought that it was just allergies slowing me down, but unfortunately, over €100s later, turns out I have a throat infection, too. Pretty fabulous.
I shouldnt have shared that radler with that german chicks boyfriend. I knew my drink sharing would catch up to me some day.. Turns out that day was yesterday when I had to visit the doc (who was a hottie btw. give me a German doc anyday). It cost around €50 for the check up, and another €50 for prescription allergy medicine (why didn't I just bring Claritin) and amoxcicillin.
Bye-Bye shopping money.

a fabulous weekend with mum and my crazy friends
Gosh. ive been horrible about b logging so you KNOW ive been busy…
Friday my mom came into town, and I picked her up from the airport. we went around town on sat, I showed her marineplatz, odeonsplatz, and karlsplatz. it was a fabulous day of platz’s. we walked around town in search of the alte pinakothek and after we finally found it (we didn't take a map because I thought I knew where it was.. turned out I didn't lol, as usual) we walked around within the museum listening to captions in English, thankfully, for a few hours. there were a few too many paintings of jesus for my liking, but my mom enjoyed it so we stayed on. After all, she had come alllll the wayyyy from California.
we were pretty tired from walking around all day so we went back to my lovely apartment. I got a call from Julia, they were gonna partttyyy it up… I wasn't sure if my mom would be too excited about me going out, but she said “I don't want to cramp your style“ and with that I got ready to head out. Knowing I would drink, she made dinner, a fabulous Indian dish of rice and fish, so I quickly ate and left to go meet up with the girls ( Julia, Marielle, and Koko).
SATURDAY NIGHT
I met up with them at a sexy little bar near Vish’s house, so I called him up to see what he was doing. Turned out he was right next door, so we met up with him and his friends and we all went over to Ed Moses for the night.
The bouncer at EM was a total ass-hole and gave me and Julia major shit. We weren’t quite sure what his issue was, but we’re pretty sure it had something to do with how sexy Julia and I are lol. He decided for some reason that he wouldn't let us in, so we went and stood by the back entrance and a sexy Persian looking boy, whom none of us knew, ended up letting us in so it all worked out in the end. I swear, everywhere I go I end up becoming friends with Persians.
Of course, unfortunately, we couldn't get Vish and his friends (Pierre, and Englishman, and another German guy named Stephan) in that way, so they had to deal with the bouncer but eventually we all were inside dancing to lovely electro musique.
I met a couple randoms that night, this hot dj named Fabio who said we could get into his bar anytime, a cool chick who said I absolutely MUST go to Heidlburg, and another cool chik whos boyfriend gave me a few sips of his Radler.
Marielle left early because she was tired and eventually Koko and Julia left too, but I stayed on to party with my international group of friends.
Towards the end of the night, Pierre said that I shouldn't be attracted to him because he was boring when he was sober (all in an English accent) and the German ended up stripping... AWESOME NIGHT all n all lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

L, sexy stripping german boy, in the white = pierre, and up front is fabio!
vish, me and pierre hahahha dont we look fabulous
At some point around 4 am, Vish and I left EM to go to another bar, which was pretty shitty, and realizing that we were done dancing for the night we went over to see the English Garden in its early morning beauty. It was pretty gorgeous but I think I was too drunk to appreciate it…So we played some drunken games in the garden instead.

The whole thing was covered in fog.. There were a few people walking around and all you could see were silhouettes. Awesome for someone whos sober and knows the crime rate in München ( close to 0%) but a little scary for a girl who’s used to San Francisco’s crime rate ( umm 100% ? ). A little freaked out in a new place it was hard to keep my cool, but I managed, nothing happened, and Vish and I ended up having a blast walking around and checking out the Garden..
I didn't end up getting home till around 11.30 am. I apologized to my lovely mum, but she didn't mind and actually let me sleep for a few hours. I woke up around 3, my mom made lunch, and then we went back over to the English Garden to walk around.
ENGLISH GARDEN vs. ENGLISH GARDEN
I must say that my experience from that morning was much different than my afternoon experience, though both were equally lovely.
I shared a beer with my mom in the bier garden at the Chinese Term, and my mom and I shared gossip about everything that was going on back home…It was pretty awesome. I love my mommy.

Mum and I walked around some more, and checked out the Isartor. There was a beauuuuutiful sunset there that we thouroughly enjoyed after peeing at the local MccyDees (which is pretty much all that McDonalds is good for: its public restrooms).
We ate at a Turkish place. My mom had a veggie wrap thingy and I had a yummy sandwhich and we took our meal over to the River near Muffathalle (another bier garden) and hung out by the river.
After such a long weekend, I slept pretty well that night.

sexy SUNDAY
Seeing that it was Munichs 850th birthday and that she is a gemini, just like me, I had to celebrate. The girls and I (Mariel Julia and Mona) met up at Odeonsplatz to walk around and check out the festivities. It was basically a HUGE fair with TONS of people and it wouldve been awesome Im sure if we werent so hung over.
The boys met up with us and we got coffee at the cutest little restaurant ever, right in the middle of Odeonsplatz. Julia and I shared a plum strudle thing that was actually pretty good. I had a dinner date with Julia and Mariel at their apartment, so they left to pick up pizza and I stayed on with the boys and Mona. We sat outside and enjoyed the sunny cold as Jan and David drank Radlers. Lol Im surprised I didnt get one too.
What happened Jan? I thouht you said it was a chick-drink? haha ;)
Lol so while we were sitting outside Jan said that I need to stop them from talking in German because they forget that I dont speak it. But i feel bad making them! If I were a German I would probably make the other person learn German too. Luckily they all speak English wonderfully though, so I suppose from now on I will just politely clear my throat and say "ehnglisch, bitte"
I left around 6 to get dinner with the girls and we had some yummy stuff.
I wanted to watch the game with Jan afterwards but he didnt answer his phone. DANKESHERN, JAN. Unfortunately they all have their exams and stuff coming up so theyre all really busy :( But luckily Julia isnt in school, so I forsee myself hanging out a lot with that cool chick.
So I walked around the city a bit longer to breathe in the atmosphere, took some pics (to be uploaded soon), went home, and slept until this morning :)

sultry SATURDAY
My Saturday was sooooo sulttrrryyyyyyyy...
I finally handled my cell phone situation so now i OFFICIALLY have one. Like seriously. Call me. It works. I spent like 45 minutes with the guy who sold it to me trying to persuade him that the sim card DID NOT WORK in my phone in Munich, but when I was in Amsterdam and England it worked, so it had to be a frequency problem, but he didnt believe me. He thought that because my phone was a Blackberry it should work no matter what, but I wasnt lying so wtf.
I presented the man with an ultimatum; "Take the card back or give me a new phone". He gave me a phone. Granted its the world´s oldest Nokia (snake match, anyone?) but at least I have a phone now.
I went to the bbq with Max which turned out to be loads of fun. It was on the river (isar) bank just outside of Munich and it was absolutely beautiful. It reminded me of a creek called Dinky Creek in central california.. Seriously Munich is sooooo amazing... These Germans are SO LUCKY. This place seriously has everything. An amazing city, and a beautiful river + country side type of thing right next door.... It´s not very far outside of the city because afterwards Max dropped me off at the boys´ house and we were there in like 5 minutes flat (and they live 10 mins from the city center).
The boys made dinner that night and it was actually REALLY GOOD. hahahha i was sooo impressed with them and their sexy-selves. They seirously made 4 different HUGE pasta dishes.. including a "curry flavored" one hahahaha... it was ridiculously amazing. They rock my world. We had lots of wine (yum) and listened to Backstreet boys. hahahahhahahhaa... it was seriously awesome. There were fabulous people there, as usual: The boys (sans Jarod unforrttcchh but he will be back in a few days i think) and some of their awesome girlfriends: Mona, her friend Julia, and Mariel and her roommate Julia. Lol seriously everyone is named Julia. And everyone is totally awesome. Mariel is going to SF in a few weeks, Mona works in P.R. for ESCADA (wow!) Julia is a pre-school teacher (just like this one German movie.. "the rabbit with no ears" or something..) and Monas friend Julia was very quiet. lol...
After we were all nice and bubbly, we headed over to the CROWN club in the city. It is soooo cooool to be partying in the middle of a city which is over 850 years old!!! (It was Munichs birthday this Sat) Crown club is likea hip hop club and their friend was the DJ that night so we got in free. Awesome awesome awesome. Homie got payed like 300 euros to play that night, and he didnt even end up playing because there were so many dj´s! Daaayyyyym I need to be a DJ in Munich.
Anyway the club was pretty great. Julia David and I danced like all night long and had a blasssssssst on the dance floor. Unforrttchhh Jan had to leave early because he had lots of studying to do :( and Janek didnt even come! By the time it hit lke 3 there were sooooo many people on the dance floor..this one girl like pushed me (probably accidentally) but I was a little rowdy and turned to her and harrddcore dogged her. She totally dogged me back and David saw the whole thing and like moved me aside. That was probably the best thing to do because loorrrdddd knowwwsss what I would´ve done. I would probably be blogging about how Im banned from a club here or something. shiiiyyeettttt.
Anyways, the girls and I left the club around 4.30 (yes, am) and we wouldve had to wait at the u-bahn station for like 30 mins so we cabbed home instead. I didnt have enough cash for the whole way home (no one uses cards here) so I let the driver know, but he took me all the way anyways :) What a nice guy. hahaha he probably knew that a drunk american would FO SHO get lost in Munich at 5 in the morning.
I passed out as soon as I got home and didn´t wake up till 1 the next day. Im surprised I even woke up THAT early.
xoxo

fabulous FRIDAY
My Friday was nice and relaxed. After work I went over to my family friends´house to have dinner with them (theyre how I found an apartment to live in.. Theyre called the Montenbrucks).
They have a daughter (Laura), a son (Stephen), and two ginea pigs ( Falling and star).
Laura is the cutest/brattiest 15 year old I have ever met. She reminds me of myself when I was her age. Her affinity for learning language and travelling matches my own, and she cant wait for me to go back to the states so she can come visit me.
Stephen is the cutest 12 year old in the world. He plays the piano, tennis, and loves soccer " fußbol". Luckily, the day before, David taught me the names of some players (Ballak, Podolski, Leeman...) so I was able to chat with him a little. They were pretty impressed with my ability to name-drop.
After I left their home I was prettttty tired, so I just went home and slept. yay :)

GERMANY VS. CROATIA: 2 : 1 crt.
the isartor gate where i met up with jan and david to walk ovre to the game

thats the croatian flag and the guys are the FAMOUS band that was played that night

jan and their friend
pimped thugged out david:

happy david:
Julia & i

the concert hall where we watched the game

the BIG screen

Unfortunately, though I attended a public viewing and took all my good luck charms with me, it was not enough.
Deutschland lost to croatia. PSSSHHHHHHH
I went with Jan David Isa and some of their friends including Malaika, Julia, and a few others, and it was a ton of fun just watching the game. Before we watched the game we sat in a beer garden, which Jan said isnt a "real" beer garden (why im not sure) and there was a lot of fuzz flying around (like dandilion types) an d I asked what it was. David said it was flowers.. having sex. And he also asked me not to blog that. So, naturally, I had to.
I had a Radler for the first time, which is lemonade and beer. Yummmy...
Max , the friend I made a week or two ago, invited me to accompany him this saturday at a bbq construction competition, where the competitors have to create a bbq pit lol. its right on the river so if the weather is nice (which is highly unpredictable.. i would hate to be a weatherman in germany) i will go :)

Because my job @ Detail is SOOO COOOL....
the pinakothek der moderne
drawing by alvar alto:
photography of his work:

random, walking through an outdoor mall one of the hallways had concrete walls with glass inlaid (the pic is sideways) and it was AWESOME

a broader view of the hallway showing how light pours in day and night.. although at night its a little fancier. man is always competing with nature.

I got to go to a special opening of an exhibition on Alvar Aalto at the Pinakothek der Moderne. They had wine, and I hadn´t eaten in a few hours so I only had one glass, and even that was enough.
Alvar Aalto is a Finnish architect who established the Finnish Institute of Architecture. A majority of his designs have organic features and natural aspects, namely the use of local and natural materials. He believed that after the war the Finnish should retreat to their "natural state" and designed for the user of the space. He is probably Galen Cranz´s favourite architect.
His drawings are absolutely beautiful; the only other person Ive seen with such amazing drawings is John Lambert Pearson. They had photos of details of his built work and the photographer was phenomenal, but so were his subjects. The photos portrayed the wide variety of materials that he used in his work including tile, wood, glass, you name it. And the materials he used were not always arranged in regular patters, in fact in some of his designs they actually came off the wall, evoking various natural occurences such as rippling waves or hills.
One of his most famous buildings is his Experimental House which he built with his second wife, Elissa, on the island of Muuratsalo. He designed mostly in Finland, but also had influential designs in Germany as well, including the Aalto Theatre House in Essen.

One of his most famous buildings is his Experimental House which he built with his second wife, Elissa, on the island of Muuratsalo. He designed mostly in Finland, but also had influential designs in Germany as well, including the Aalto Theatre House in Essen.

WORK
the deadline was Monday so i have absolutely nothing to do right now.. the editors are just writing away about their respective topics so if I ask them if they want me to do anything Im actually bothering them more than helping them. Kinnnnnd of pointless for me to be sitting around but I feel like they´d rather have me sitting around just in case there is one little thing that they might want me to do. Kind of ridiculous because it doesn´t look like i´ll have anything to do for a while, but its good for me because I´m doing research on a possible thesis idea that (if I´m interested) I may be able to expand upon as a graduate student.
LOVE
what? I have a crush, thats about it.
LIFE
is great... Im loving architecture even more. Maybe because I´m not in studio... Ive been reading the portion in NY Times about design... Finally, time to read. I feel so much more informed these days than when I was in college. Woah, did you hear that?
Anyway. The weather here is insane. it has already rained, been completely sunny, and then rained again.
FOOD
I had a wonderfully healthy lunch that I made for myself today. Some sort of German wheat bread with cream cheese that had spinach in it and cucumber inside. Cherries and "jogurt". Yummm... I ate shitty chinese yesterday and told a colleage about it. He said that my American/Indian stomach must be stronger than his because last time he ate there he threw up for like the next 24 hours. Yikes.
FAMILY
i spoke to my bro yesterday.. he was sitting on upper sprowl in front of the GBC. lol, its soooo crazy to think that im like a million miles away, and hes in berkeley, and were talking on a PHONE and i could picture exactly where he was... Technology blows me away.
I havent spoken to my mom yet about her extended stay but I think Im begining to come up with things for us to do.
NAME-DROPPiNG
John started working OFFICIALLY this monday as an employee! I hope his first day was good. John, how was ur first day?
Ahmed is backpacking type of thing and taking busses from like Cambodia to Vietnam. Holy shit. Amazing.. And apparently everywhere except like Europe and the States have the squatty toilet. haha...
Talene is thinking of working for a fashion designer! That is sooooooo awesome... I can TOTALLY picture her working for Cole Haan or something..Although the realm of architecture will definitely miss her presence..
Vishant and I went out yesterday for some drinks at a bar near the Universität with a friend of his (whos name I have unfortunately forgotten). Hes from Texas. Yay US. His friend had this amazing looking strawberry margarita that had a mint leaf sticking out of it with powdered sugar sprinkled on it. I wonder what that was supposed to represent.
Janek and I went shopping in Stachus (Karlsplatz ) yesterday. I bought a charger for my camera finallllly and he bought some headphones for his grandmother who will be visiting this weekend. awesome awesome awesome.
Jan studied yeseterday in the library and Janek wondered whether the word "nerd" could be used for that or not. We decided that it was appropriate, but only for this occasion because otherwise, Jan is far from being a nerd.
Jarod is still in the states. No word as yet.
Aastha leaves for India in a few days!! she must be excited.. Haha Im sure she cant wait to hang out with Aditya and company
Dee also started his first day of work on Monday.. I have to find out how that went. The Germans he is working for wouldnt let him start at the hospital without a white coat hahha.a. Apparently scrubs arent good enough.
Stephanie is in Italy!!! And shes coming to visit me in Munich soon. I am so excited to have a b.f.f. from o.c. with me!!! I called her today but since I was at work I had to contain my excitement. Which was probably just as well because she was sleeping since she had a lonnnng night last night. Oh how I love long nights...

Emergency Urbanism & The Exigent City
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/08/magazine/08wwln-urbanism-t.html?pagewanted=1
Repatriation becomes a dream less dreamt by refugees around the world whos temporary "housing" solutions in camps are becoming more permanent. Is there room here for architecture to save the day?
I think I may have found an idea for my "senior thesis." I wasnt going to write one but it seems now that I have found a topic which is both very interesting and can involve what I love most about architecture: its connection to culture, current events, and the importance for it to respond to how people actually USE spaces.
Read the article, it is very intruiging. I knew that these refugee camps were bad, but I didnt realize how long people actually are forced to live there.
My new stand: since they are there for so long, they might as well be comfortable.
http://www.cunycenter.org/home
They have dealt with emergency urbanism for quite some time, I think Ill get hooked up with them when I come back. Maybe I can be an intern for them or something upon my arrival to the states. Looks like I may be taking a very humanitarian approach to architecture... how Berkeleyan of me.
http://www.cunycenter.org/node/11
Perhaps I have found an emphasis: Kenya. Maybe Ill go during my Thanksgiving break or something to volunteer out there and do some research.. The NYT article said that things always take wayyyyyy longer to get fixed than they expect them to, so chances are the issue will still be present when I go. Hah. I wonder what my father will think about THAT.

an architectural exposure
This is EXACTLY what I wanted out of working here: to be thrown into architectural theory, practice, and play.
This Thursday there will be a symposium held in Frankfurt where JEFF KIPNIS and other big names will be giving crits to students and speaking to the public. If I have nothing to do at work, that is where I will be.
International Practices:
http://www.coop-himmelblau.at/
As the architect and designer of the BMW Welt (pics of which are featured in a previous blog entry) CHBL seems to have created an icon for himself: steel + glass... I am tempted to call him Gehry-esque stamping his style accross the world.
-Local to Germany includes BMW Welt, München
-Local to US includes the Ohio Akron Art Museum.
http://www.fosterandpartners.com/Practice/Default.aspx
Who on the 21st of June have been commissioned to lead an interactive sculpture peice will be launching the London Festival of Architecture and will be created and demolished by the public, all in one day. Sound artist is the famous San Franciscan Bill Fontana.
-Local to Germany includes Free University, Berlin (97-05)
-Local to US includes World Trade Center Design (2002), Greenwhich St (06-12),
-Local to CA includes Clark Center @ Stanford (99-03)
www.graftlab.com
Famous for their ongoing interaction with Brad Pitt, this firm does more than just pose for the Paparazzi in Hollywood. They are world class architects of hotels, are featured in art exhibitions, and even design furniture.
www.makeitrightnola.org
-Local Germany: Hotel Q, Berlin (02-04)
-Local U.S: Design Resort Hotel, Palm Springs (02-now)
Sirens Club @ Treasure Island, Vegas (03-04)
-Local CA: Brad Pitt's Guest House, LA (99-01)

If you know me at all, you already know she is my hero. What you may not know is that I will finally see some of her European architecture in person. Analogy: she reminds me of Ursula from the Little Mermaid, and even though I know the movie by heart, I would probably still give ZH my voice if it meant I got Prince Eric.
-Local Germany: Science Center, Wolfsburg
-US: Cincinatti

wilkommen zu muenchen
short version:
i have to get used to the keyboard ALLLL over again.
EURO 2008 has begun, and I couldnt have been introduced to it any better than I was yesterday coming off the plane. Greeted by singing and cheering fans on the S and U Bahn, I realized two things:
1. the game i missed while I was on the plane mustve been a good one, meaning, Germany won!
2. Futbol is a bigggggggggggg deal. Perhaps bigger than football.
Back at work on Monday I decided during my lunch break that I would purchase some of my very own Germany '08 gear. After all, I am a resident of Deutschland now. The boys will be so proud ;) I think I will hang with them tonight.
xoxo
long version:
Plane Ride:
I sat next to a guy who I seriously think was in the Russian, Polish, or Yugoslavian Mafia. He smelled like shitty leather and his girlfriend had the biggest fake-and-bake Ive ever seen...and Ive sen a LOT. Anyway, we flew on KLM Royal Dutch which provides its passengers with free beer. Big Mistake. The Mafia Man and his cheap girl friend drank about 10 to themselves and became the laughing stock of the plane. I managed to sleep through most of it until I was awoken by the Englishman sitting in front of the Mafia Man and asked him to "stop blabberin your fucken mouth off"
It was pretttty funny. As if that wasnt enough drama, while we were waiting for the S-Bahn (suburban train) to arrive, there were rowwwwwwdy German fans on the platform who were drunk and singing as louuuuud as they could. One of them began to follow an officer and actually grabbed his ass just to be put in a headlock and knocked to the ground. The officer eventually let him go and the rowdy skin-head continued to sing songs of German Pride (their team had just won the match) and though I found it wonderfully entertaining, the Polizie did not.
The fabulously furious bunch of fans got on the same S-Bahn as me and caused just as much commotion on the train. In fact, thanks to them, I even learned a few Deutsch futbol chants:
1. The first one is where u just keep saying DEUTSCHLAND!!!!!!! in a lot of different tones of voices
2. The second one sounds a little bit like "the itsy bitsy spider" but with a lot of jumping and German words. I know the tune and a few words, but dont ask me to sing it. It is reminiscent of "Shout! A little bit louder nowwww" when the singer gets soft and low to the ground then louder and louder until hes jumping.. Just like it. But to "itsy bitsy spider"
There are a ton more, but I dont remember them anymore.. Anyway the ones listed are the funniest...
I was laughing at the situation the whole way to Marienplatz on the S-Bahn but the woman sitting accross from me (who clearly thought I spoke German) wouldnt stop going on about how irritated she was with the whole deal. The S-Bahn Poliz surrounded the guys to make sure they didnt fuck around too much, but they didnt do much else. I think they were just as entertained as I was... The boys got off before I did, and, as they say, boys will be boys, and they as they got off the train they flicked off the Polizie who STILL didnt do anything. I guess when the Germans win futbol matches, nothing else matters.
After all that fabulosity, I knew that I HAD to get some "Go Germany" gear so I picked up a lei and some face tats today of the German flag.. Ive always been a futbol fan anyway.. And now that I live in a E U Country I absoltely HAVE to represent my German Pride.
Haha woah.. never thought I would say that, especially not so soon, but München and its people already hold a special place in my heart.
I am SO STOKED for Euro 2008....its gonna be awesome!! And I love that I have awesome boys to watch it with :D
WORK:
Officially just finished my first layout which is going to print. Its a 2 page spread which will be in next months issue and Im totally excited. I think before I leave Im going to have everyone sign the last issue that Im a part of. Lol, how awesome is that. Im going to frame it too.
I also kinda want to work for GRAFT when I get back. I was talking to someone who worked for their office and he seemed totalllly cool.....Maybe I will go to LA after all! But I still want to check out the NY scene.. so maybe ill still do the SHOP thing. Im seeing so many cool projects though while Im here I dont want to get caught up with the same old popular architects, but I REALLLY like the way the people at shop run their firm - or at least the way I think they run their firm... Decisions Decisions.
I thought that working at DETAIL would turn me towards Journalism, but everyone here is a professional Architect, except for like 2 people (Journalism and Mass Comm). I didnt expect that though I suppose Im not surprised... Afterall the magazine is verrrrry specified for Architecture. That makes me kinda hapy actually :) Yay Architecture!
FAMILY
My Mom is coming to visit at the end of this weekend and she will be here for 21 days. I think my dad thinks I need a babysitter, or that my mom seriously needs a break from my dad. Either way, I dont know how excited I am, but Im going to have to make the best of it. I thought I would be living alone in Munich, but apparently my parents think that my apartment is their summer home. Fabulous. Just in time for Euro 2008. Well, all I have to say, is my mom is going to have a much higher tollerance by the time she goes home.

Preston, England!
Hellllloooooooooo darlings!
I was out last night till forever with my cousin Aastha, and therefore, we did not wake up until 2 pm. We got ready and left to head out to Preston, England! We walked around around the city center, did a little shopping, and saw some ancient architecture. Ok so it wasn't ancient but it was still pretty old. Shopping wise the place was pretty decent, I just bought some sandals, nothing big, because everything was so expensive! A pair of socks was like 5 pounds!
MOVIE REVIEW:
We went to see sex in the city and i loved it. It was a little predictable and kinda cheesy, (big had some pretty cheesy lines, and the whole Louis / St Louis / Louiiise thing was a little cheesy too & the whole "Love is the Thing" line that she had I really didn't like..) but overall it was pretty awesome and funny.
RESTAURANT REVIEW:
Then we had mexican food at a restaurant called "Chiquitos" where we were able to order a drink at the bar, but not at the table because apparently a copy of your passport doesn't suffice to show that you're 18. Stupid waitor. Anyway, the food was pretty good but it was funny that being from California and eating "real mexican food" my whole life I came all the way to England just to eat some more. We ordered chicken enchiladas, which were pretty good but not very spicy and a sort of sweet, actually.. and Chicken fajitas which Aasthas frind Gazal and I shared. The veggies werent sautayed for long enough but the food was prettttttty good.
TRANSPORTATION REVIEW:
Englands transportation system is pretty awesome. I got to see one of their train stations today which I was able to evaluate because of the teachings of the wonderful Professor Littman (im a big nerd get over it) which was pretty cool to see the whole like industrial revolution movement in person.. Shoot I should've taken pics. Sighhh... But train tickets work for buss passes as well! And once trains stop running, they know that college students are out here, so you can take a special bus which goes straight back to the college until like 11 from Preston to Lancaster which makes going around town without a car definitely feasible. Taxi's are relatively reasonable as well.
Overall, I had loads of fun... especially last night ;)
Tomorrow we're off to Manchester to check out the city and do some sight seeing, and then I have my flight at 4 to fly back to Muenchen!! wooot woooot!!
I picked up a random present from the restaurant for my German Boys hahha.. They might read this so I won't say what it is until AFTER i give it to them.. Unfortttchh I only got 3 (not 4) so hopefully they can share or something.
xoxo

p.s. ... : German Politics
Everyone knows that the primary's are really important right now with such a historic event taking place RIGHT in front of our eyes. I figured that people around the world were probably making fun of Americans for making such a big deal out of race, gender, or religion, and that was if they were even watching the primarys in the first place. It wasn't until this past Thursday that I realized how involved non-Americans are with American politics, and furthermore, how much they actually CARE...
I went to lunch with some of my colleagues (do I sound European yet?) to a nearby (amazing) cafe and the topic of politics invariably came up at the table. Despite the warnings I received from my German friends to keep politics separate from work and especialy lunch, we couldn't help but talk about how Hillary hinted that was going to step down.
My colleages were going on and on about how Obama did this or that, and how they didn't liek Hillary because she stood for this and that, etc.
Overly impressed with their vast knowledge of American politics, I soon realized how sad it was that I wasn't more involved in the politics which are occuring throughout the rest of the world. Luckily ( or unluckily) the only channel on my tv which appears in English (besides MTV) is CNN.
I'm all OVER that shit now, baby.
Uhhhhhhhhhhhh (the way Master P would say it).
Additionaly:
A professor at a highly distinguished University in France held an open debate about how Obama would do in the presidency, and apparently the hall was full of zealous students who all were loyal supporters to Obama.

Lancaster & Manchester, UK
I flew into Manchester today!!!
My cousin Aastha came to "receive me" at the airport and we took a train back to Lancaster for 15 Pounds (which amounted to more than $30 at the current rate...I think I like the Euro better).
After we came back to her apt, we went to a cute little Indian Restaurant on campus lol and I met one of her friends, Avinash, a sindhi Indian guy from Barcelona! Crazy! I got to practice my spanish with him so that was fun, and my Hindi, and my Sindhi, AND MY ENGLISH! Unfortunately he didn't know German but if he did I think I would have had to shrink him and put him in my pocket to be my personal pocket dictionary.
We ate biriyani and I had a tandoori chicken wrap, and because he was so impressed with my language skills he gave me a Mango Lassi. I think I may have to include that amazing factoid about me on my C.V. :
" Awardee of Mango Lassi for incredible linguistic capabilities"
After lunch I got some cassssssssh and transferred my leftover dollars to Pounds ( $100 = 46 Pounds... Ouch) and then we did some sight seeing!!!!

Aasthu and I on the double decker bus on our way to townnnn :)

Look! No Hands! Haha... No but seriously it was like a roller coaster.. I wish I took a vid for yall.

UKs next top model hahaha.

the view!

Aastha in front of the Lancaster Castle.. half castle half prison!

entrance to the prison.. It looks soooooo mideival..

cells? where cell mates stay? I don't understand what they could've done besides being AWESOME so that they can stay in a castle.

The Priory Church, Accross from the Lancaster Castle

The View from the church (shadow of the castle on the ground)

more of the view from the church

in front of the Priory church on the ground they have all sorts of inscribations which are fading and ohhh soo cool to see the various layers of history peeling away..

Priory Church

This statue looked exactly like me.. There must've been one of my awesome ancestors there, too.

All Hail Great Britain. NOTTTTTT! (borat voice) hahhaa...
After we checked out that whole area, we went to the Gardens nearby where:

Myself and Aasthu again

a park bench in front of the butterfly gardens:

^ that's what I'm doing :D.. I really feel like while I'm out here I'm like searching for my own path through life with all the crazy cool amazingly awesome experiences I'm experiencing.. And of course the people along the way are enhancing my journey more than I ever thought they would...
I already miss Germany. How crazy is that! Away from deutschland for not even a DAY and I'm sad... I know I'm going to be verrrrrrrrry sad to leave at the end of the summer...
Anyway, enough of that, tonight Aastha and I are going outtttttttt! We bought some rum for a pre-party in her party.. We're going to club CUBA tonight. I'll let yall know how that went tomorow ;)
