first day of work at DETAIL

Today, on what was supposedly the hottest day of the year in Germany, I began my first day of work at Detail Magazine. As if going to the office wasnt intimidating enough, I wasnt just a little sweaty, and got to shake everyone's hand in the office.

Aside from being on a plane which went from Bankok to Calcutta, I dont think Ive ever smelled so much b.o. Luckily, I wore a descent amount of deoderant, but I cant say that for everyone else in the office.

I guess Germans arent used to the heat either.

Michaela, the chick that made it happen for me at Detail, turned out to be one of the funniest Germans Ive met thus far, aside from David (one of the boys) who even with his somewhat limited English manages to make what are probably the funniest jokes in town. Granted, it could simply be his accent, or the fact that I cant always tell whether hes being sarcastic or not (but then again, when can I ever tell when someone is being sarcastic?)

I got to see the new project by ***** which has just been built in ***** (sorry, sworn to secrecy). The grafiks are awesome!!!
omgggggggggggggggggg do they make the coooooolest diagrams. And I think I saw the biggest rendering EVER today on a computer. This thing was HUUUUUUUUUUUGE. No one had anything for me to do when I first got there so I spent the first hour or so simply enjoying reading my favourite magazine (Detail, duh). And just for kicks, I read the german version and used a translator to get myself better acquainted with the language.

On my wonderfully long hour lunch break, I spent my time at a phramacy nearby buying stuff I couldnt get after the hours of 6 when all reasonably priced convenience stores in Munich close.
I picked up some lotion (2 euros) and mascara (10 euros. fucknig bull shit) and spent the last of the cash that I had. §200 gone in 3 days spent on internet cafes, groceries, a german sim card, subway passes, and lets not forget the alcohol.

They had a straightener for 20 euros which sounds goooood but is probably shitty, (even tho it says its ceramic) but i cant imagine anything that cheap being any good. Either way, they didnt take credit cards so I had to get more money out the ATM.

So, I headed over to CitiBank next door, where I asked the old white teller how he was and whether he spoke english. He curtly said no, and I told him I didnt speak german, and he said ''nicht gut'' - essentially '' SUCKS FOR UUUUUUUUUUUUU''. I think hes the rudest german Ive ever met. Fking jerk.

Anyway, I went to the next teller (after waiting another 15 minutes till the one who spoke English was available) but apparently having only a COPY of your passport isnt good enough there, u have to have the real thing. Im sorry, but my mommy taught me not to walk around the city with my passport.

I went back to work after getting kicked out of a seat by a waiter who said I would have to order food to sit there, and quite unhappy with the way my sweaty day was going I decided to simply think that it was probably just the heat that was making all the Germans in Munich be rude to me that day.

Luckily everyone at the office was AWESOME, even tho the boss seems a little scary.

Anyway, I got back to the office and told Michaela what happened and she said I should probably try deutschebank, since I have Bank of America and they are partners. After work (thugh Frank tried to keep me working on layouts) I FINALLY managed to get some cash but missed my movie night with the Americans! Very sad. We were going to see sex in the city. I programmed it in my blackberry and everything, and then I went and missed it. I was very sad :( Now what am i going to do. Go by mself? I cant go to a fucking movie by myself. FUCK.

Freakin Frank. If only I hadnt stayed that extra half hour. But deadline for print is on Thursday and they needed me at the office so a good first impression is definitely better than some sex in the city... NOT. Okay yaaa so it probably is. But i wanted to seee ittttttttt uggghhh.....

Anyway, since there was no way i was going to make the movie I decided that instead of going home right away I would either call the boys or just walk around Munich a little... I chose the latter and spent some time at Karlsplatz (lol where Ive been for like the past 3 days) and I tried to get a pass for June but couldnt figure out the machines and no one spoke enough english to help me out enough. Siggghhhhh... Im going to have to figure that out very quickly otherwise my u-bahn bill is going to RACK UP.

In the mean time, I think I explored every exit and enterance of Karlsplatz station and found that it has about a BILLION. I dont even know how I found my way home from there. Sheesh.

Anyway.. I have some pizza at mi casa from yesterday.. think Ill go eat some leftovers.

Ciao bellas
